Filus Torrontés 2011, Argentina
Ok folks… I think we’ve found our winner for the Spring White’s theme and yes, I know the month is not done yet, but this wine really does call to mind spring-like metaphors. It is important to note that although this is the wine that best fits our ‘Spring Whites’ theme thus far, the curse of having individual palates causes me to not class this one as one of the overall best white’s we’ve had this month.
This Torrontés provides the aromas and tastes that one would naturally liken with sunny days and spring patios. As you try it, you instantly recognize hints of pear and pineapple, with some spice to balance the sweetness. Some have said that they can also pick up hints of grapefruit, but that wasn’t obvious to me.
Although this wine may be a little too sweet for my liking, I could see it being served on patios the first nice spring day we get; the two really go hand in hand.
I would recommend this wine for spring/summer parties, regardless of the maturity of the wine palates in attendance.
This wine retails at the LCBO for $13.95 and can be found in the vintages section
