Michel Picard Clos Paradis Mercurey 1er Cru, 2009, France
As I write this, I am still ranting and raving inside about how GOOD this wine was. Talk about a surprising experience. I mean we knew the wine would be good, based on locale and winery, but who knew that even from the first sip, it would be such a delight.
Some would think that because this was a 2009 red wine, that it may need more time to breathe or at least another year to age, but that is not so. Pour a glass for yourself and take a minute to review the colour. You’ll notice the outer edge is coloured a light brown, showing that it has started to ripen, so to say, meaning it is ready to drink now, but based on simple wine experience, it could turn out to be an even bigger hit in a few months time. However, given the average time from store to wine glass, let’s be honest, you’re happy that I am giving you the thumbs up to drink it as soon as you get home!
Your sips of wine will bring to mind hints of deep fruit, such as plum, and red apple, yet still balanced with enough tannins that make the wine a delightful drink, for even the seasoned red wine drinker. I would also recommend this wine for even the lightest of wine drinkers; the friend that you know who is a beer or vodka only persona – it’s that good! If you are hosting your next event or even looking for a great bottle of wine to take to a friends for dinner, go this route and you won’t be disappointed.
This wine retails at the LCBO for $28.95 and can be found in the vintages section.
