Cocktail Recipe: The Moscato Club
Here in the city, folks are getting ready to celebrate a long weekend and this means, cottages, home patio’s and general relaxation. With that, my phone usually rings like clock work the Friday morning before a long weekend, with friend inquiries of what kind of libations they should buy or serve this or that long weekend. So, I must admit, it was these calls that led me to experiment with a simple Moscato cocktail that anyone can handle.
First, let’s talk about the Moscato we used; Strev Moscato D’asti. I chose this one because it came from Piedmont Italy – one of my favourite wine producing regions in the world. On it’s own, this Moscato carries a lovely taste filled with melon and your palette sensing this couldn’t be anything but a Moscato, with the highly detectable grape taste. Now, I find Moscato’s to be a little on the sweet side for me, but often an excellent base for a cocktail. Knowing too that this Moscato held only a 5.5% alcohol level, it had all the makings of a refreshing cocktail base. So, now on to the cocktail!
The Moscato Club
You’ll need a white Moscato, Club Soda, Ginger Honey, Lime or Lemon.
Pour 4 oz of Moscato into a glass and then add 2 oz of Club Soda. Add and stir in 1 teaspoon of Ginger Honey. If you do not have Ginger Honey on hand, you can use 1 oz of a sweet ginger beer. Ensure your honey is well integrated into your Moscato/Club Soda mix. Then add 1 teaspoon of lime juice.
And voila… your refresing Moscato Club is served!
The Strev Moscato D’asti, 2011, Italy, retails at the LCBO for $14.95 and we gave it a score of 3.5.
