The Crackling Tropical Sangria
With the heat still upon us, our patios are laced with the most refreshing cocktails imaginable. Anything to cool your guests off, while you work away at the BBQ fare, or just sit heartily, enjoying everyone’s company over conversation. Sangria, in my books, is one of the simplest patio cocktails out there, even though it can come with as many variations as your mind can imagine. Below, is one of my sangria recipes that is sure to impress your most hard to please guest. Now, as the wine is your most dominant ingredient let me start by saying this, many claim that the wine should be good and perhaps one of your favourites, but to us, if it’s one of your favourite wines, don’t ruin it with adding other liquid mixtures to it. The only stipulation on wine that I would offer is that you use a lighter red for this recipe; something like a Tempranillo, Pinot Noir or a Merlot.
What You Need:
- 1 bottle of wine
- 1 large orange
- 1 small lime
- Sweetened grapefruit juice (Grace’s Caribbean Grapefruit Drink can take the place of the grapefruit juice and club soda, if you have access to it)
- Club Soda (hence the crackling)
Pour your bottle of wine into a pitcher. Add 2 cups of sweetened grapefruit juice and 1 cup of club soda. (If you are using Grace Grapefruit Drink, add two bottles to your wine). Once your liquid is placed in your pitcher, stir the contents to mix it all together. Then add your orange to the liquid. Your orange should be sliced, with your slices being an approximate 3/4 cm in width. Add your berries to the mix and all kinds of berries will do. In fact, the more berries, the better. Take your lime, cut it in half and squeeze the lime juice into your mix. What you end up with is an effervescent, tropical tasting wine cocktail.
Cheers and do drop us a line to let us know how your Crackling Tropical Sangria did, at your next patio event!
