d’Arenberg The Stump Jump Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre, Australia, 2010

We couldn’t help but delve into this Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre blend, as we’re often pleasantly surprised by the blends produced out of this region. Moreover, the creativity put behind the name alone sparks the interest of anyone incentivized by inventiveness.  The ‘Stump Jump’ placed in the title represents the South Australian Stump Jump plough; a savvy invention used to clear the most treacherous terrains. Now on to the wine…

On colour, this Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre blend has a rich ruby red hue, expressing the anticipated fullness of the wine.  On the nose, you note hints of plum, berries, spice and light mineral.  On the palate, the light tannins are nicely blended with tastes of blackberry, strawberry and spice; an enjoyable palate experience, hands down.

I served the Stump Jump Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre wine with porterhouse steak, fresh vegetables and shrimp, all grilled on our rooftop patio  BBQ, and it was a perfect match.

This wine retails at the LCBO for $14.95
