Harbour Estates, 2010, Merlot, VQA, Ontario

It’s that time of year again, where we look to consume as many comforting reds as possible.  There is something about the combination of the first drop in temperature and a full bodied Merlot that makes the loss of balmy days, ok, even if just for a little while.

The 2010 Merlot, from Harbour Estates is consistent in colour in terms of what you would expect from a Merlot.  It’s dark ruby red hue, borders on burgundy (the colour).  On the nose, this Merlot produces scents filled with spice, cherries, and some oak, while on the palate, you sense hints of blackberries, consistent spice and refined tannins, producing a medium length finish.  Overall, a well rounded mouth feel.

Though this wine cannot be found at the LCBO today, it can be ordered from the winery directly, but if you are more adventurous, and don’t mind taking the drive, know that you won’t be disappointed. The HEW winery is located on a gorgeous stretch of land, bordering on to the Jordan Harbour.

This wine retails at the winery for $14.95, per bottle.

We gave this wine a score of 3/5.
