Well here’s an unexpected wine find in the city; Canyon Creek Chophouse, Wine Thursdays. Now, I can’t take all the credit for the find. I am a part of a local wine group, and leaders Nina and Julian, scoped out the joint, ahead of time, and gave it the official thumbs up, for our wine meetup.
Though I’ve been to Canyon Creek Chophouse before, I’ve never noticed the extensive wine wall, until now. It was a massive display of wines, with a good proportion of the wall being used to display wines from Ontario. I can only assume that my ‘aha’ moment about Canyon Creek’s extensive wine list and display is shared by many others, making their Thursday night promotion relevant and ever-fitting. Every Thursday, Canyon Creek offers their diners a selection of over 30 VQA and international wines by the bottle, and for only $20; a price pretty much unheard of at a North American restaurant. The wines our group selected that evening, were a strong indication of the quality of Canyon Creek’s wine list; Ironstone Chardonnay, Ravens Wood Old Vine Zinfandel and Penley Estates Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon. All three were fantastic showings of what the wine list had to offer, from one wine extreme to the next.
Though the folks at Canyon Creek Chophouse didn’t state how long Wine Thursday’s would stay in existence, I can’t imagine it lasting forever. Needless to say, I plan on getting back to Wine Thursday’s to do a bit more exploration on my own. After all, there’s nothing stopping me at that price!
