From time to time, I will come across a wine that I just cannot get enough of, like my summer love affair with Château Des Charmes Aligoté, and now, this Pinot Noir Reserve 2009, from Ridgepoint Wines, has just been added to my group of trusted wines.
I knew I was in for a treat from colour alone. Ok, it truly was the nose that actually made my mouth water, but the colour still does impress. Ridgepoint’s Pinot Noir has an elegant ruby red hue that is light and delicate, resembling the colour of what I call a true Pinot Noir. On the nose, initial fruit scents are present, but delving in a second time, you get the oak component, still perfectly blended with that initial fruit bouquet. On the palate, you’ll continue to be impressed as this wine holds the elements of the mouth feel you want from a red, but with the delicacy of a Pinot Noir. On the palate, you get remnants of oak, cherry, light raspberry and peppery notes, all with finely tempered tannins.
From Ridgpoint’s relatively small size and fairly recent entry into the wine world, you would never expect such a showing form their Pinot Noir. This is a highly recommended buy if you are already a fan of Pinot Noir and Red Burgandy’s, but it also falls into the category of the perfect crossover wine for even your most cynic guest. Really fantastic!
This wine retails at the LCBO for $24.95.
