The Charitable Factor
The Barefoot Winery business was practically built on cause awareness and of course some self branding through providing aid. To get their business off the ground, 26 years ago, the co-founders of Barefoot Wines aligned themselves with causes that were close to their hearts and offered to donate wine to their events. Today, they solidly support, work with and give back to five causes and not just in the way of donating wine, but through either holding fundraising events themselves, raising money for partner charitable events, and participating in local charitable activity whenever possible.
The brand owners, Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey, have recently written a book detailing their start-up story and how cause awareness marketing helped them get started, and yet ironically keeps them grounded even today.
Abou the Wine
Though, as you know, Barefoot Wines houses a plethora of wines, we choose to go with their award winning Merlot. On colour, this Merlot is a dark garnet red colour. On the nose, large fruit aromas consisting of plum, blueberry and partnered with some green olive scents are present. On the palate, a weirdly smooth fruit forward mouth feel is produced. The wines tannins are well balanced and work well with the cherry, raspberry and vanilla tastes.
Barefoot Merlot, is a well balanced casual drinking wine that I can see being paired with the families Monday night pizza or the homemade burgers from the grill.
This wine retails at the LCBO for $9.95
