My first memory of Rockway was really their golf course. I had a work event that was held there, where I was of course, in charge of the drink cart. Fun times it was, but it also was my driver for picking up and trying Rockway Vineyards Red Assemblage 2010. This small batch Red Assemblage wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
On colour, this wine is a deep ruby red. On the nose, scents of plum, blackberry, currant and herbaceousness are apparent. On the palate, a burst of robust and well placed tannins ring through, blended with oak, and blackberry that dance in your mouth. I let this wine breath for a mere 20 minutes, and its complexity rang through as the wine became undoubtedly smoother with every sip.
I paired this wine with spicy salami and it worked well. I’ve often had the challenge of pairing spicy Caribbean foods with wine, and this appears to hit the nail on the head.
