How could you not fall in love with something that has the word ‘love’ in the name, but let’s not overlook the fanciful label either, and if I were to be honest, the label is what drew us in to this wine; that and the fact Loveblock Pinot Noir 2011 is from New Zealand’s Central Otago wine region… well what can we say, but that we were sold.
A few thing you should know about Loveblock Wines: it is a Kim Crawford brainchild and a fantastic diversification and brand segmentation move on his part. There is no disputing the accolades Kim Crawford wines have garnered for themselves over the years, but their popularity for crisp everyday drinking whites have placed the brand in a predictable and somewhat difficult to overcome typecast. Loveblock is a full biodynamic wine operation and a fantastic way for Kim to extend in his creativity and craft.
On colour, the Loveblock Pinot Noir 2011 holds a bright ruby red hue. On the nose, scents of intoxicating black berry, plum, smokiness and herbaceous elements are found. On the palate, tastes of strawberry, oak and light spice are noted. The wine also softens to show a fantastic buttered fruit forward side. Again, Central Otago did not let us down!
