Our red blend today comes from the Burrowing Owl Estate founders love child, Calliope Wines. Cultivated from British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, Calliope Wines Figure Eight Red Blend 2010, holds the same ascendancy as some of the impressive Pinot Noir’s we’ve had from that region.
On colour, the Calliope Figure Eight Red 2010 holds a ruby red hue. On the nose, scents of cherry, vanilla and spice. On the palate, you’ll pick up raspberry, anise, blueberry and pepper notes that hit the back of the throat.
This is bold red blend of Syrah and Merlot, with a strong and long finish, that produces quite the opposite sense one gets when assessing the meaning of the name Calliope; “Calliope (ka-LIE-oh-pee) wine embodies the freedom & beauty of its two namesakes: B.C.’s tiniest hummingbird, and the Greek Muse of Eloquence.”
This wine retails at the LCBO for $22.99
