On a quest to discover a new red, I picked up this Italian gem; Du Cropio Serra Sanguigna 2008. This wine is from Calabria, Italy, and of the gaglioppo grape variety, the regions dominant wine grape.
On colour, the Du Cropio Serra Sanguigna 2008 holds a deep ruby red hue. On the nose, scents of plum, cherry and rich spice ring through. On the palate, you’ll taste peppercorn, cherry, some tobacco, and a lingering blueberry trace. This wine has a medium to long finish.
This is definately a complex wine that builds with breathing time. We let ours sit for 40 minutes and then found the round fruit taste and tannins to work fabulously together.
This wine retails at the LCBO for $17.25
