Not only is this a great tasting Alsatian Riesling, it is the first wine on our list of Thanksgiving recommendations!
The Gassmann family have been making wine in the French commune of Rorschwihr, since 1676, and as you can tell from the name of the locale, the area is rich with German history. Now, if this German influence has anything to do with this superb production of Rolly Gassmann Riesling 2009, I cannot say, but one thing is for sure, these winemakers have produced an impressive Alsatian showing of this variety.
On colour, the Rolly Gassmann Riesling 2009 holds a crisp, yet light, golden wheat hue. On the nose, scents of green apple, pear and definite melon are noted, with a light floral essence. On the palate, this wine sits perfectly in the desired state of being well tempered with acidity, finely managing the wine’s sweetness. You’ll also note tastes of that persistent melon, apricot, and pear. Lastly, this wine produces an enjoyable medium length finish.
This is a formidable white that is sure to please the palate of the masses at your Thanksgiving dinner! The structure of the the Rolly Gassmann Riesling 2009 is one that will go well with your special occasion first course, and even with the main feature, Sunday’s turkey.
