While others chose to partake in Oscar themed martinis, I chose to give Ridgepoint 2010 Reserve Merlot a whirl. I had been anticipating the arrival of a few Ridgepoint wines to the local LCBO Vintages list and, as a result, you could only imagine my excitement in digging into this wine.
On colour, the Ridgepoint 2010 Reserve Merlot holds a crimson hue. On the nose, you’ll get a fantastic fruit bouquet and vanilla, complemented by some herbaceousness. On the palate, cherry, strawberry and anise are present, topped off with that herbaceousness you sensed while nosing the wine. We let this wine breathe for 30 minutes and found that it produced a lovely medium to long sophisticated finish. As you’d expect with most merlot wines, this Ridgepoint Merlot produced a smooth and somewhat velvety mouth-feel.
Ridgepoint Wines totes being the first to commercially bottle Nebbiolo in Ontario, and they have a fine focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.
This wine retails at the LCBO for $19.95
