Who doesn’t love a celebrity vintner, especially when they produce some enjoyable vino. In the case of Mike Weir, Canadian professional golfer on the PGA tour, not only are you experiencing some fantastic VQA wines, but you’ll feel good too, as much of the money made from his wines go to the Mike Weir Foundation. The Mike Weir Foundation has been in existence now for 10 years and works to aid the growth and development of welfare children in Canada.
In search for an Ontario white on the LCBO’s generalist list, we picked up the Mike Weir Chardonnay 2013, a VQA made of Chardonnay grapes blended from two Niagara based vineyards.
On colour, the Mike Weir Chardonnay 2013 holds a pale golden hue. On the nose, this wine is abundantly aromatic. You’ll pick up scents of apple, pear, apricot and citrus. On the palate, you notice tastes of caramel, pear and well-tempered tannins.
From Mike Weir himself:
Ever since I founded my Estate Winery in 2005, I have always strived to produce ultra premium VQA wines that would showcase Niagara, a world-class wine growing region where my family has deep roots.
This wine retails at the LCBO for $13.95
We gave this wine a score of 3 out of 5
