Ernie Els has proven to us time and time again that he is not only a PGA icon, but also a force to be reconned with in the world of wine. I had my first Els wine about five years ago and was impressed then as I am now tasting his Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2014. Though it seems that golf and wine are an unlikely pairing, Els took to viticulture easily and claims

“wine is like golf – in both endeavours nature has the last ruling.” (ernie els)

Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2014

On colour, the Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2014 holds a deep garnet hue. On the nose, black berries, vanilla, and herb are dominant. On the palate, a wonderful blend of red berries, chocolate, accented peppercorn, and refined tannins are noted. This red blend is strong, but remarkably easy drinking, which extends its pairing options.

Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2014 is a blend of Shiraz (61%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Mourvédre (6%), Grenache (5%), Cinsault (4%), and Viognier (4%). Each varietal was maturated separately, before being blended.

Ernie Els Wines allows the golf pro to fuel another of his passions, Els for Autism, a US charity that aims to help those diagnosed with autism, and their families, not only understand the disorder, but to thrive in society. The organization also funds and participates in autism-related research projects, a much needed effort as this disorder impacts 1 in 68 children in the US. So, remember the above as you take a sip of Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2014 because your purchase just helped to fund the fight against autism.
